Learn to Skate

Ice skating is a fantastic way to stay fit, make new friends and learn life long lessons. Come try out ice skating today, no matter what stage of life you’re in!

The first step in learning to skate is coming along to a public session and seeing if you enjoy it, then from this point you have a variety of options.

Group Classes

While ACTISA itself doesn’t conduct lessons, the Phillip Ice Skating Rink does! For the most up to date information, follow this link.

For people aged 14 years and under, there are a variety of group class options that run for 10 weeks during the ACT school term. These classes are run by coaches employed by the rink who have been certified by the Australian Professional Skaters Association (APSA).

For people aged 15 years and over, there is generally a group class in the evenings that caters to all levels. As of January 2025, these classes are run on a Monday night. Coaches in these sessions will also be APSA certified.

Private Lessons

Private lessons are available at the ice rink also! Please call the rink to get in contact with available coaches. Lessons will be booked at the discretion of the coaches and the times convenient to them. Generally these lessons will take place in the figure skating practice sessions.
